Terms of Service

Effective 11 August 2026

BC Wildfire Map is an informational tool, not an emergency service. It must not be used as the sole basis for any decision about personal safety, evacuation, travel, or property. In an emergency, call 911 and follow the direction of local authorities and official sources.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of bcwildfiremap.com and any related pages or interfaces (together, the "Site"). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. What the Site is

The Site aggregates publicly available wildfire and environmental information — including satellite heat detections, mapped fire perimeters, evacuation orders and alerts, area restrictions, wind, and air-quality readings — and presents it on a single map for general awareness. It is a personal, non-commercial project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the BC Wildfire Service, Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR), Environment and Climate Change Canada, NASA, or any government or emergency agency.

2. Informational use only — no reliance

All content on the Site is provided for general information only. It is not official guidance, advice, or an authoritative record of conditions on the ground. Official sources always take precedence, including:

You are solely responsible for verifying any information against these official sources before acting on it.

3. Data may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate

The Site relies entirely on third-party data feeds that it does not control. As a result:

The Site does not verify, validate, or correct upstream data and makes no commitment as to how current, complete, or accurate any of it is.

4. No warranty

The Site and all content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, reliability, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. The Site does not warrant that it will be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

5. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of the Site shall not be liable for any loss or damage of any kind — including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or any loss of property, injury, or loss of life — arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Site or its content, or any reliance on delayed, inaccurate, incomplete, or unavailable information. Your only remedy if you are dissatisfied with the Site is to stop using it.

6. Third-party data and links

The Site displays data from and links to third-party sources, each subject to its own terms and licences (see the credits shown on the map). The operator of the Site is not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or practices of any third-party source or website.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Site in any way that is unlawful, or that could disable, overburden, or impair its operation — including automated scraping or excessive automated requests against its interfaces. The Site's own presentation, layout, and code remain the property of its operator; underlying data belongs to the respective source agencies under their licences.

8. Availability and changes

The Site is offered on a best-effort, no-guarantee basis and may be changed, suspended, or discontinued at any time without notice. These Terms may be updated from time to time; the "Effective" date above reflects the current version, and continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
